My Journey To AI Governance and Professional Development
Artificial intelligence (AI) has been a transformative force in our world, reshaping industries and redefining the possibilities of technology. My journey into AI governance began with a deep curiosity and a commitment to ethical technology use. Becoming certified in artificial intelligence governance through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) exam reflects the culmination of years of involvement, learning, and contribution to the AI community.
The Beginning: A Fellowship and a Conference
In 2019, I was honored to receive a fellowship through the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association. This opportunity opened doors to the AI professional community and immersed me in the world of AI governance. That same year, I attended the Cyberspace Law Committee’s Winter Working Meeting in Phoenix, AZ, which has since been renamed the Cyber and Tech Law Committee. The conference was a vibrant gathering of experts in AI, law, and governance, and it provided a platform for me to engage with leading professionals in the field.
During the conference, I raised my hand to support the scholarship of AI governance and contribute to the ongoing dialogue about ethical AI use. This experience was the first step in my active involvement in various initiatives, including webinars and continuing education courses, where I had the opportunity to stay updated on the latest trends and developments in AI.
Active Engagement: Panels, Webinars, and Workshops
Since that pivotal conference, I have been actively engaged in a myriad of initiatives aimed at advancing the understanding and application of ethical AI. I have served on panels discussing the ethical use of AI in business, the legal landscape for AI, and the upcoming regulations that will shape the future of AI technology. These discussions have been crucial in fostering a comprehensive understanding of AI governance and its implications for businesses and society.
The Evolution of AI: From Niche to Mainstream
Back in 2019 and 2020, AI was considered a niche topic, primarily of interest to tech enthusiasts and professionals in logistics and business analytics. The capabilities of AI were impressive but not yet mainstream. However, the release of ChatGPT by OpenAI in 2022 marked a significant shift in the AI landscape. Suddenly, AI became a crucial aspect of technology use in everyday life, and the importance of AI governance surged to the forefront of discussions.
This dramatic change underscored the necessity for robust AI governance frameworks to ensure ethical and responsible AI deployment. Recognizing the importance of cementing my knowledge and expertise from those early days, I decided to pursue certification to validate the skills I had acquired and to deepen my understanding of AI governance.
The Certification Journey
The decision to get certified in artificial intelligence governance was driven by my desire to prove the expertise I had cultivated through years of work and professional association service. The process of studying for and taking the IAPP’s Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) exam took roughly a few months, but it was immensely rewarding. The certification not only validated my knowledge but also provided me with new insights and perspectives on AI governance.
Achieving certification has empowered me to guide companies through their own AI governance knowledge and deployment processes. It has also allowed me to engage with individuals who are interested in taking the exam, sharing my experiences and preparation strategies.
Encouraging Continuous Learning and Certification
In the rapidly evolving field of AI governance, continuous learning and professional development are paramount. I highly recommend anyone interested in AI governance to put their knowledge to the test and pursue certification. Engaging with the AI community, staying updated with the latest trends, and contributing positively to the future of AI are crucial steps in ensuring ethical and responsible AI use.
My journey to becoming certified in artificial intelligence governance has been a testament to the importance of dedication, continuous learning, and active involvement in the professional community. As AI continues to evolve and become more integrated into our daily lives, the role of AI governance will only grow in significance. I am committed to contributing to this field and encouraging others to do the same, ensuring that AI technology is used responsibly and ethically for the benefit of all.
